Thermistor Shapes
Jul 29, 2024Thermistors come in various shapes, tailored to different applications and environments.
Thermistors are categorized into two main types:
1. Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) Thermistors:
- Description: NTC thermistors decrease in resistance as temperature increases.
- Materials: Made from metal oxides like manganese oxide, cobalt oxide, nickel oxide, copper oxide, and aluminum oxide.
- Temperature Ranges:
- Low temperature: -60 to 300°C
- Medium temperature: 300 to 600°C
- High temperature: >600°C
- Functions:
- Power type
- Compensation type
- Temperature measurement type
- Temperature sensor
- Applications: Used in temperature compensation and automatic temperature control circuits, such as in refrigerators, air conditioners, and greenhouses.
- Performance: For every 1°C increase, the resistance decreases by 2% to 6%, depending on the model.
2. Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) Thermistors:
- Description: PTC thermistors increase in resistance as temperature increases.
- Materials: Made by adding rare earth elements to barium titanate (BaTiO2).
- Types:
- Slow type: Resistance increases by 0.5% to 8% per 1°C rise.
- Switching type: Has a Curie point temperature (~120°C for BaTiO2). Below this point, resistance remains low and stable. Above this point, resistance increases sharply.
- Applications:
- Slow-type PTC: Used in temperature compensation circuits.
- Switching-type PTC: Used in degaussing circuits of color TVs, compressor starting circuits of refrigerators, and overcurrent/overheating protection circuits.
Shiheng Electronics produces high-precision, reliable, and stable thermistors, leading the industry in performance. Our power NTC thermistors excel in surge current suppression and have superior specifications, such as a large B value and minimal residual resistance. The temperature measurement NTC thermistors (MF51, MF52, MF58) have passed UL, TUV, and CQC certifications, with MF58 also passing AEC-Q200 testing and 100,000 durability tests per UL standards. Our NTC temperature sensors offer high accuracy, consistency, stability, reliability, and longevity. Shiheng's thermistors are highly regarded for their excellent performance.
